Every pant we make is cut and sewn in the USA, built from fabric we developed for the job, and guaranteed for life. What changes is the weight, the stretch, and how much you need to carry. Here is how the four stack up, feature by feature.

| Choose this if… | You kneel, crawl, and carry a full load every day. Maximum durability, kneepad-ready. | You want the heavy NYCO fabric and hammer loops without 11 pockets — or the price that comes with them. | You work in the heat and won’t give up pockets or abrasion resistance to stay cool. | You’re on the move all day — trucks, ladders, crawlspaces — and want the lightest, stretchiest pant we make. |

Abrasion resistance is relative to the four pants shown. All four are Modern Fit, hemmed to order, made in the USA and guaranteed for life.
Each pant exists for a reason. Here is the reason, in plain language, with the features that matter.

Two-time GearJunkie Best Work Pants winner. A kneepad-compatible double front mapped to where knees actually wear through, 11 pockets laid out for everyday carry, and 14 oz Stretch NYCO® that is 10× more abrasion resistant than cotton duck. If you own one pair of 1620s, it’s this one.
Best forCarpenters, concrete and flooring crews, framers, anyone on their knees

Not every job needs 11 pockets. The Foundation Utility Pant keeps the same 14 oz Stretch NYCO® as the Double Knee and adds only what gets used: dual hammer loops, an XL phone-friendly utility pocket, a gusseted crotch. Six pockets, no fluff, and the best-value price in the line.
Best forCarpenters and remodelers, farm and property work, anyone who wants one tough everyday pant

USA-woven 8.5 oz Stretch NYCO® twill with the same abrasion resistance and no-melt/no-drip rating as the heavyweight, at a little over half the weight. Eleven pockets, four of them phone-ready, a D-ring, and 2-inch belt loops. For when it’s 95° and the job can’t wait.
Best forLandscapers, roofers and solar crews, electricians, anyone working through summer
A 4-way stretch double-weave softshell that moves in every direction, wicks, and dries fast. Built for the trades that spend the day in and out of trucks, up ladders, and under equipment, and still want a pant that looks sharp at the customer’s door.
Best forHVAC and plumbing techs, mechanics, service and field crews
We don’t buy fabric off a shelf. Each of these was developed with a US mill for a specific kind of workday, which is why the four pants feel so different in hand and perform so differently on the job.
The fabric 1620 was built on. Developed from the US military BDU blend and woven exclusively for us, it is up to 10× more abrasion resistant than cotton duck, lasts up to 5× longer, dries 2× faster, and meets the NFPA 1975 no-melt/no-drip standard. PFAS-free water repellency from day one.
Same yarn DNA as the heavyweight, re-woven as a 2×1 twill at a little over half the weight. It keeps the abrasion rating and the no-melt/no-drip property, breathes, and dries fast. Built for heat without giving up the backbone.
A 4-way stretch double weave with proprietary core-spun yarns, originally engineered for professional sports. Soft face, wicking and quick-drying, water-repellent finish, and full-range movement in every direction. The fabric behind the Field Tech Pant.
Different jobs destroy different parts of a pant. Match the pant to what your day actually does to it.
The Double Knee Utility Pant 2.0. Same 14 oz Stretch NYCO® as the Foundation Utility, plus a second layer over the knee where pants wear through first. It has won GearJunkie Best Work Pants twice.
The Lightweight NYCO Utility Pant: 8.5 oz twill, same abrasion rating as the heavyweight, breathes and dries fast. If you want maximum stretch over maximum abrasion resistance, look at the Field Tech Pant.
Stretch NYCO® is a cotton, CORDURA® nylon and spandex weave: it feels like a work pant, takes abrasion like nothing else we have tested, and stretches in one direction. Durastretch® is a nylon-spandex double-weave softshell: lighter, stretches in every direction, wicks and dries fast. Pick NYCO for grinding on concrete and lumber, Durastretch when movement matters most.
Yes. Every core pant is cut to our Modern Fit: a medium rise worn at or just below the waist, a trimmer thigh than most work brands, and a straight leg from the knee down that clears any boot. If you prefer a baggier fit, size up.
Every pair is hemmed to order to your inseam, 27" to 36". Pick your waist and inseam on the product page.
The Double Knee 2.0. The reinforcement has a stealth opening at the bottom that fits most commercial pad inserts.
1620 warrants its products to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product. Normal wear, accidents and improper care aren’t covered, but our repair program will usually get a worn pair back on the job.
