At 1620 Workwear, we build gear for people who build everything else—from scratch. Landscapers, tradesmen, operators, and small business owners who turn their skills into livelihoods. Todd Tyler of To a T Property Care is one of them.
Todd’s journey started early—long before owning his own company. At 14, he picked up a landscaping job over the summer, working for a school district’s grounds team in central Massachusetts. He didn’t even have a license yet, but he was already behind the controls of power equipment. That early exposure to the rhythm of outdoor work—and the satisfaction of a job done right—left its mark.
Years later, after graduating with a degree in film arts from Long Island University Post, Todd found himself at a crossroads. “Some entry-level spots don’t pay the bills,” he admits, and landscaping felt like the natural next step. It wasn’t just something he was good at—it was something he genuinely enjoyed.
That summer after college didn’t end. It evolved into a business.
What began as occasional side work—neighbors asking him to mow their lawn—quickly turned into a steady stream of customers. He started buying better equipment and building a name for himself. It was no longer just Todd with a truck and mower. It became To A T Property Care, a full-time property care business based in Central Massachusetts.
“It’s always nice to wake up, go to work, and then be able to leave the job and look back,” Todd says. “When you drive by a place that you’ve done, you’re gonna tell whoever you’re with—‘Hey, look at that.’” That kind of pride doesn’t come from just clocking in and clocking out; it comes from creating something tangible.
In an industry where new landscaping companies pop up and disappear constantly, Todd knew he needed more than just tools—he needed consistency, dedication, and pride in the small things.
He’s honest about the repetitive nature of the job: cutting lawns, laying mulch, clearing snow. But what sets him apart is how he approaches that repetition. “It’s never good enough. It’s either done or it’s not.” That mindset—giving 100% even when the work feels routine—is what’s helped Todd carve out his place in the community.
Working in New England means adapting to the seasons. Todd thrives on that variety. Spring cleanups turn to summer mowing, which transitions to fall leaf work and—if you’re lucky—winter plowing. He sees the snow season as a bonus: unpredictable, exhausting, but rewarding when it hits. “If you’re not prepared, that’s when Mother Nature tells you, ‘Be ready.’”
Still, he never relies on winter work. The real income and growth happen in the other three seasons. That’s where the investment goes—and where the effort counts most.
Despite running a successful business, Todd will be the first to tell you: he’s not a fan of desk work. “I just can’t sit still,” he laughs. Invoicing, bookkeeping, and customer follow-ups? Not his favorite part of the job. But he’s figured out how to make it work, even if it doesn’t come naturally. Because when you’re running a business, the paperwork matters just as much as the power equipment.
Todd doesn’t overthink his tools—he just wants them to work. Whether it’s a truck, a mower, or a pair of pants, reliability is the priority. “I’d much rather have tools that aren’t necessarily good-looking but last,” he says. That same mindset applies to what he wears on the job.
When he’s shopping for workwear, Todd looks for longevity. The gear needs to survive day after day of wear and abuse—without breaking down. “You take your work pants off, put ‘em down, and the next morning, they’re going back on. They just need to hold up.”
On 1620 Workwear, the durability, comfort, and functionality stood out to Todd immediately—especially the pocket layout. “I’m like a kangaroo. I put so much stuff in my pockets, and it’s all spaced out nicely.”
The made-in-USA factor sealed the deal. “There’s nothing better. You gotta be happy where you’re from and support where you’re from. That’s a huge bonus.”
Ask Todd what one tool he can’t live without, and he doesn’t hesitate: a knife. It’s always on him and always useful—whether he’s cutting open a bag of mulch, fixing a light fixture, or pulling splinters. His Kershaw knife isn’t flashy, but it’s proven its worth. “I’ve opened things I probably shouldn’t open with it… cleaned my teeth… tightened screws. It’s held up.”
Todd’s story is the kind of story we built 1620 Workwearfor. He’s not chasing trends or looking for shortcuts. He’s out there doing real work—season after season—with gear that needs to keep up.
